The ISA’s Decision-making process is the method used by the
ISA’s caseworkers and the ISA Board to decide whether it is
appropriate that an individual should be barred from working with
children or vulnerable adults. It includes the use of our
Structured Judgment Process which aids our determination as to
whether an individual presents an unacceptable risk of harm to
children and/or vulnerable adults.
The ISA’s Decision Making Process was developed by the Board of
the ISA with specialist advice. The Board has the benefit of having
members with considerable experience and knowledge in the areas of
safeguarding children and vulnerable adults; risk assessment and
risk management; child protection; education and the assessment,
treatment and management of sex offenders.
The ISA’s Decision-Making Process Guidance is a living document
subject to constant review and updating (as one would expect it to
be) and we reserve our right to change or update it without notice
or consultation. Additionally, the Vetting and Barring Scheme –
under which the ISA operates – is currently subject to a Government
review. We will ensure that any updated or future versions are
available on our website at appropriate intervals.
